The re-birth of radio, driven by new technologies, means there's never been a better time to focus on a career within the industry and Falmouth's new Foundation Degree in Radio Production enables students to start working as radio practitioners right from the start of the course.

Taught units give you the core skills and knowledge to operate as a proficient and responsible broadcaster. In Level One you also spend two days a week working for Falmouth and Penryn's community radio station, 'The Source', honing your technical, packing and presenting skills on live and pre-recorded programmes. In Level Two you have the opportunity to specialise in a chosen area of radio production and develop close working relationships with professional broadcasters.

Tell me more about the Foundation Degree in Radio Production course

By choosing to study for a Foundation Degree in Radio Production at Falmouth you will:

  • Gain practical experience of working in a real-world broadcast environment from day one.
  • Work with portable recording and live studio-based equipment in both educational and working environments.
  • Learn how to edit and structure pre-recorded material, alongside the legal and regulatory constraints within which you are required to work.
  • Examine how audiences can be considered and understood, and how they might be appropriately addressed through programme genres.
  • Follow the production process, from initial research through to the creative use of multi-track techniques, to produce your own documentary or drama.
  • Create links with partner institutions and develop your practice through a close working relationship with one, or more, professional broadcasters.
  • Identify and pursue individual specialist roles and develop a portfolio that demonstrates your accomplishments to help gain long-term work placements in Level Two.
  • Benefit from being taught by staff who are also practising professionals.
  • Be based at the stunning Tremough Campus, which boasts industry standard media facilities.
  • Have the opportunity to 'top up' your qualification on completion of the course by applying for the third year of BA(Hons) Digital Media.

Course entry requirements

A minimum of 160 UCAS points, equivalent Level 3 qualifications or relevant experience. All applicants will be invited to attend an interview.

Interview dates and selection process

Interviews will commence in February.

The interview will include a campus tour and an individual interview. Applicants are not expected to bring a portfolio to interview but will be asked to discuss their knowledge of, commitment to and enthusiasm for the subject.
