The resulting images will be shown in an exhibition that opens on Monday 30 April on the Tremough Campus.

    James Williams by Tom DymondCongratulations to BA(Hons) Press & Editorial Photography alumnus, Thomas Dymond, who was shortlisted in the category People for the 2012 Sony World Photography Awards. The work shortlisted was of Chairman of the Board of Governors, James Williams, taken during his role as High Sheriff of Cornwall.

    Clare SalisburyClare Salisbury, who graduated in 2011 from the MA Multimedia Broadcast Journalism course has won the Best Radio News Feature in the Broadcast Journalism Training Council's (BJTC) annual awards.

  • New term and a new cinema experience within the Media Centre

    Over the break the Media Centre cinema will receive a significant upgrade. The improvements, worth £75,000, will provide commercial cinema quality projection and sound.This will include a full HD projector as used in Vue cinemas nationwide, 7.2 surround sound, a new large wide cinema screen and acoustic curtaining.

Tell me more about the BA(Hons) Creative Computing course

Creative Computing at Falmouth focuses on game design in all its contexts. The course is built around a range of modules that explore the different uses and meanings of gaming. This means you can choose to either hone in on making an impact in the digital gaming industry itself, or keep your studies broad, combining game principles with digital know-how to strike out in other areas of the creative industries.

Balancing technical, creative and experimental skills, Creative Computing is taught by a staff of experienced and award-winning art, design and technology professionals. You'll be encouraged to work creatively across a range of subjects, from art practices in media, design and performance to prototyping programmable media, objects and spaces. Working collaboratively, you'll develop co-authoring and team production skills that build on the diverse talents of your peers, while learning to invent designs, solutions and experiences that turn ideas into reality.

You will:

  • Explore digital technologies in a supportive art-based environment
  • Work in teams and inspire others with your ideas
  • Work in a multidisciplinary environment of academics, researchers and creative industry practitioners
  • Network with commercial and cultural partners in the Academy for Innovation & Research (AIR) 

How is the course taught?

You will be taught through a mix of creative labs, seminars and tutorials and projects. Projects will be collaborative and involve designing and delivering experiences across a range of digital and physical media and art forms.

Assessment

  • Continuous assessment with no formal examinations
  • Prototype demonstrations, verbal and written assignments
  • Project demonstration and dissertation in the final year

This course has its roots at the centre of Falmouth's strength in the creative arts and builds practical computing skills to enable you to design and produce new experiences for mobile, situated, multi-platform and multi-artform interaction. Such skills are in demand in:

  • Media agencies whose customers are demanding multi-platform and mobile delivery of campaigns
  • The game industry, which has seen the rapid growth of casual games and development of pervasive games at its fringes with performance art and theatre
  • Film makers, broadcasters and production houses, who are exploring new channels for the delivery content and content designed for new channels

  • Healthcare sector, which is adopting game design strategies for learning and delivery
  • Corporate and public sector organisations, who have communications and creative media as strategic strands

Interview and selection process

All applicants will be invited to attend an interview and may present a portfolio of creative work so we can assess your abilities, skills and potential to succeed at this level of study.
