Widening participation at the local level

Widening Participation at Falmouth

Widening Participation (WP) is central to University College Falmouth's aim of diversifying our student body and working in partnership with the local community to enhance access to educational and artistic opportunities within Cornwall. Drawing on funding from HEFCE, Aimhigher and other sources our key aims are:

  • Increasing application and enrolments of students from under-represented groups including Black and Ethnic Minority students, Care Leavers and students with a disability.
  • Developing partnership, compact and progression agreements with schools in Cornwall and Devon to increase learning opportunities in the Creative and Performing Arts.
  • Raising the aspirations of local pupils and adult learners who may have not previously considered Higher Education.
  • Providing innovative student-centered pre-entry support through our Mentor Scheme and Online Forum.
  • Providing creative support for curricular extensions in local primary and secondary schools.
  • Engaging with local community organisations, such as the Youth Offending Service through provision of educational support and practical workshops.
  • Supporting the FXU Active Community Fund

We work closely with Marketing, Student Recruitment, Learning Futures and individual courses within the University College to ensure equal access to educational opportunities are at the forefront of engagement with all our students and applicants.
