Profile - Thomas Steuer - Erasmus exchange (Photography)

Thomas is an Erasmus exchange student from Fachhochschule Dortmund University in Germany. He is currently a second year student on the BA(Hons) Photography course.

What interested Thomas in an Erasmus exchange? He wanted to experience how photography was taught in a different higher education institution. Learning another language was another key goal.

FH-Dortmund’s International Office gave Thomas information about the Erasmus study exchange programme. He decided UCF would provide the kind of experience he was after and prepared for the exchange by taking private English lessons.

Thomas felt the necessary preparations were worth the experience he’s had. In his own words: “The photography course at Falmouth is absolutely great; especially the annual study trip to London and the different workshops featuring guest photographers.”

Thomas believes that: “Life in Falmouth is very easy. Everyone is so open-minded and friendly. Chatting with people you bump into on the street, the beaches and living by the seaside makes it worth it to live here for a while.”

Thomas felt it was an important experience to learn about and experience photography within a UK context. He believes this knowledge and experience would be a great advantage for his future. In the meantime, he is looking to deepen his UK photography experience by living and working in the UK for a while. He won’t be lacking for ideas when he goes him either: “The inspiration you get from the course is just a million’s worth!”

Thomas summed up his Erasmus experience at UCF by saying: “This has been a unique and creative exchange. The College is absolutely modern and well equipped with great surroundings. And the English classes were great too!”
