beatricejarvis.jpgVisible City is an exciting visual exploration of the cities of Venice and Birmingham, inspired by the writer Italo Calvino's Invisible Cities. It will comprise a series of maps of both cities made from mixed media, film, large-scale black and white prints, recordings of interviews and sculpture, including city tower blocks made from images.

The contextual link between the two cities is the number of canals to be found in each place but the exhibition will also consider how atmosphere is created in an urban landscape. Key features of Visible City will include interviews with city residents, photographic comparisons, and through the exhibition the artist hopes to discover a creative solution to town planning.

Beatrice Jarvis graduated in 2008 with a First Class honours degree in Choreography and Visual Art Practices. She has just been awarded an internship at the Jerwood Space in London, at the same time as embarking on a course in Art, Architecture and Photography at Central St Martin's. Beatrice has already held a number of urban photography exhibitions in London, Paris, Berlin and Barcelona, and has choreographed a number of performances both in Brighton and London, as well as in Devon.

"I am delighted to be exhibiting my latest work on the Dartington Campus," commented Beatrice. "It would be great to think that some of the College's current students will see it and be encouraged to take their own creative risks, which you are really encouraged to do as part of the course."
