Graduating students from University College Falmouth will exhibit an impressive and diverse range of work from a wide variety of courses at the College's annual Summer Shows and Festival which take place from Tuesday 16 June to Saturday 20 June at its Woodlane Campus in Falmouth and Tremough Campus in Penryn and from Wednesday 17 June to Sunday 21 June at its Dartington Campus in Devon.
The Shows and Festival offer an opportunity for the whole community, including potential employers, to celebrate the pioneering creativity of these final year students as they take their first steps into their chosen creative industry. Summer Shows and Summer Festival 2009 promises to be an enjoyable and rewarding few days with pieces on show to excite and inspire as well as charm and mystify.
The Woodlane Campus, in the heart of Falmouth, will present the exhibitions throughout its studios from its BA(Hons) degree courses in Fine Art, Graphic Design, Illustration and Journalism.
The Design Centre at the Tremough Campus will display work produced by students from its BA(Hons) Contemporary Crafts, Garden Design, Spatial Design: Interior & Landscape, Textile Design and 3D Design degree courses whilst in the Photography Centre there will be exhibitions from the BA(Hons) Photography degree course.
"Our degree shows are treated with as much gravitas as any major public exhibition. We help our students maximise the presentation of their work, advising them how to arrange the exhibition spaces, catalogues and publicity," said Joe Coates, Course Leader of BA(Hons) Fine Art.
Show reels, screenings and film clips created and produced by graduating students from the industry-acclaimed Broadcasting and Film media degree courses will be showing throughout the duration of the Shows in the Media Centre cinema at Tremough.
Jeremy Whitaker, Director of Marketing and Student Recruitment said, "The work on display at this year's Summer Shows demonstrates the diverse creative talent of our students across a wide range of disciplines and positions the College as a centre for creative excellence as we move towards Arts University Cornwall."
In addition to the exhibitions, and for those who will be bringing younger children, the College's Day Nursery staff will also be providing face painting along with other arts and crafts activities and their own exhibition of artwork from 11am to 4.00pm on Saturday 20 June.
For those of a more animated nature, there will also be a mini showcase throughout the Summer Shows by second-year students from the Digital Animation degree course in the Peter Lanyon building at the Tremough Campus.
A free bus service will operate between Woodlane and Tremough from 6pm to 9.30pm on Friday 19 June and from 11am to 4pm on Saturday 20 June. Buses will run continuously between these times from the bus stop outside the main entrance of the Woodlane Campus. On Saturday the bus will also stop in Penryn outside the Seven Stars public house en-route to and from Tremough.
The Dartington Campus Summer Festival presents exciting and thought-provoking creative performances and exhibitions from the Choreography, Music, Theatre and Art degree courses. The five-day festival will launch at 6pm on Wednesday 17 June and continue each day from 11 am until 6pm on Sunday 21 June and encompasses an eclectic mix of music, dance and theatre performances along with readings, installations, exhibitions, talks and presentations.

University College Falmouth is the only independent Higher Education institution in Cornwall with the powers to award degrees in its own name. It has two campuses in Cornwall - at Woodlane in Falmouth and Tremough in Penryn (which it owns, and jointly manages with the University of Exeter) - and a third campus at Totnes in Devon, following its merger with Dartington College of Arts in 2008.
This merger created a new institution focusing on the expansion of Falmouth's expertise in Art, Design and Media and Dartington's expertise in Choreography, Music, Theatre, Art and Writing. The Devon-based courses will relocate to a new, high-specification Performance Centre at Tremough in 2010, paving the way for a new specialist Arts University in Cornwall by 2012, that will be unique to the South West.
The College is a founding partner in the Combined Universities in Cornwall (CUC), a unique initiative to promote regional economic regeneration through Higher Education, funded mainly by the European Union, the South West Regional Development Agency, and the Higher Education Funding Council for England, with support from Cornwall County Council.
