
Award-winning postgraduate journalism courses at University College Falmouth have been recognised by the owners
of the Guardian Media Group plc (GMG), The Scott Trust Ltd. Students from
MA in Multimedia Broadcast Journalism
and MA in International Journalism - both of which operate from UCF's
industry-standard, multi-million- pound broadcast complex at the Tremough Campus
in Penryn - can now apply for Broadcast Bursaries
from the Trust to assist them throughout the course of their studies.
The Scott Trust offers five Print Bursaries,
one Web Journalism Bursary and two Broadcast Bursaries each year for aspiring
journalists to study for a postgraduate qualification in newspaper, web or
broadcast journalism.
The two Broadcast Bursaries are offered annually at either University College Falmouth for its MA in Multimedia Broadcast Journalism and MA in International Journalism or a number of other universities across the UK.

Bursaries fund tuition fees and provide a subsistence allowance of £5,000. They also involve several weeks' work experience
within GMG, with a number of past beneficiaries
having subsequently secured employment with the company.
"These Broadcast Journalism bursaries are usually only awarded to universities within the Guardian Media Group's radio regions but an exception has been made for University College Falmouth because of the high calibre of training that we offer," explained Director of the School of Media, Paul Inman. "The School of Media works hard to foster high profile collaborations with the media industry and it is a testament to our hardworking staff and students that UCF has been recognised by such a prestigious organisation as the Scott Trust."
The primary aim of these awards is to assist
students who face financial difficulty in attaining the qualifications needed
to pursue a career in media. The Scott
Trust is keen to reflect the society it serves and recognises that certain
groups are under-represented within the industry. As a result, the Trust particularly encourages
graduates from diverse social and/or ethnic backgrounds to apply.
Online applications for 2010 entry will open on 1 February 2010 for one
month. The selection criteria for
interview includes applicants having graduated with a degree; permanent
residency in the UK; evidence of basic paid or unpaid work experience in
journalism or similar experience; a need of financial support in order to achieve
career progress; a portfolio of work or evidence of journalism/writing; and the
ability to demonstrate a commitment to a career in media.
