Falmouth Course Leader directs animation on BBC1

Sibling rivalry is taken to a whole new level in The Revenge Files Of Alistair Fury, a new comedy series that contains animation sequences designed and directed by Course Leader of University College Falmouth’s new BA(Hons) in Digital Animation, Andy Wyatt.

Jonathan Mason as Alistair Fury The fast paced show follows the antics of 11-year-old Alistair Fury as he tries to get even with his foes on behalf of oppressed little brothers everywhere. The series was filmed over the summer of 2007 and Andy directed a small team of animators, who completed work on the show at the end of last year. The Revenge Files Of Alistair Fury airs on BBC1 at 4.30pm every Monday afternoon until the end of March.

Based on the popular children's books, The War Diaries Of Alistair Fury, by award-winning author Jamie Rix, the series mixes drama with animation to follow Alistair's wild revenge missions as he takes on his family, friends and everyone else in the world.

The scribbled style of animation emulates the main character’s personality, which is cheeky, anarchic and a little bit rude.

'The Revenge Files of Alistair Fury' stars 11-year-old Jonathan Mason (who starred with Peter O'Toole in Lassie, and Ray Winstone in Vincent) as Alistair; Susannah Doyle (About A Boy) as Mum; comedian Brendan Dempsey (Waking Ned) as Dad; Carlton Dickinson (True Dare Kiss) as big brother William and Natalie Kemp as sneering sister Melanie.

“Working on this show was great fun as the animation design is really rough and scribbled, just as I imagined it would have been done by Alistair Fury himself,” said Andy. “As well as running an exciting new degree course in Digital Animation at Falmouth, my continuing professional practice and contacts provide my students not only with inside knowledge of the animation industry but also, opportunities for invaluable work experience.”

UCF’s new BA(Hons) in Digital Animation is located in The Lanyon Building, which was formally named by His Royal Highness The Earl of Wessex as a tribute to St Ives painter, Peter Lanyon, earlier this month, as part of the multi-million pound expansion of the creative hub of the Combined Universities in Cornwall initiative.

The three-year course combines cutting-edge animation practice with the study of animation theory, film language, drawing and traditional animation processes. The new Digital Animation Studio is equipped with the latest software, an interactive whiteboard, specialist desks and lighting for animation drawing – and even a skeleton to enable students to capture movement in their characterisations.

University College Falmouth is a founding partner in the Combined Universities in Cornwall (CUC), a unique initiative to promote regional economic regeneration through Higher Education. The CUC is funded mainly by the European Union (Objective One), the South West Regional Development Agency, and the Higher Education Funding Council for England, with support from Cornwall County Council.
