Celtic Media Festival inspires

"The festival that is big enough to showcase the best and small enough to meet the people you need to meet..." is how the Celtic Media Festival describes itself, a statement which the lucky sixteen UCF students who attended, thanks to funding from the Cornwall Skillset Media Academy, a national network of colleges and universities that work with industry to develop the next generation of media talent, would agree with.

BA(Hons) Broadcasting student, Kimberley Read, was inspired as much by meeting other students as by the talks given by industry professionals. "Attending the Festival has given me a great insight into the industry and fuelled my desire to become a part of it, making films of my own, and putting Cornwall on the map," said Kimberley. "I learnt a great deal and have been given great tips and advice by people such as Stuart Cosgrove from Channel 4."

"One of the biggest attractions at the Festival this year was undoubtedly the student-orientated Exposure strand and UCF students confidently asked questions of, and networked with, the wide range of media in attendance," added Karl Phillips who runs UCF's BA(Hons) degree in Film. "They aquited themselves particularly well in their pitching sessions and bagged interviews with Jimmy McGovern and Mark Herbert," he added. "It was an invaluable experience and I was proud that UCF was represented in a very positive and professional manner."

Students from all three campuses and a wide range of media courses attended the Festival including Film, Broadcasting and MA Professional Writing.
