Face the Music Flyer, Cassie Lawrence, BA(Hons) Graphic Design

An idea conceived by BA(Hons) Graphic Design graduate, Cassie Lawrence, that won the Young Creative Network Student Award in the British Music Experience category has been produced and launched digitally, appearing online and in tube and overland railway stations across London.

Cassie Lawrence, BA(Hons) Graphic DesignIn a competition open to all the creative universities in the UK the brief asked students to produce a communication that showcased the depth of the content within the British Music Experience, The O2's interactive and permanent exhibition of rock and pop that enables visitors to trace musical trends through the decades, learn about music's influence on art, fashion and politics and download music from the BME archive.

Cassie's entry, completed during her final year of study at University College Falmouth (UCF), was the stand out winner of the 80 entries submitted.

The British Music Experience has now launched her entry, a game entitled Face the Music.  The interactive game presents the player with faces depicted in abstract form of 64 British music icons.  Players click on a face and are given a clue before having to guess who the face belongs to, they are then given the clue for the next face, and so on. Prizes for guessing all 64 faces correctly include tickets to Rod Stewart in concert at the O2; a signed Epiphone Guitar and a private tour of the British Music Experience with friends.

Richard Philip, Brand Manager for The O2 and the British Music Experience, commented: "Cassie's campaign captured our imagination immediately. It's a fun and interactive way for our audience to engage with the British Music Experience and its infectious format will no doubt make this a viral hit."

The game can be played at www.britishmusicexperience.com/facethemusic and will feature on a host of online music, entertainment and film websites including XFM, Uncut, NME, Q, MOJO and Kerrang, and has also been developed as a facebook app.

Cassie's success was one of a number for Falmouth students within the Young Creative Network Student Awards.  Four further recent graduates from BA(Hons) Graphic Design, Tom Ambrose,  Tom O'Boyle, Rosie Skinner and Dominic Davidson-Merritt  also won awards for ideas submitted whilst studying at UCF.  A further award went to Matt Daniels who graduated from the course in 2009.

Jon Unwin, Course Leader, BA(Hons) Graphic Design commented: "We are always proud of our students winning national awards, it is a tremendous accolade, not only for the individual concerned, but for the course. Cassie's reward goes further, with her work being published by the sponsors of the competition, the British Music Experience. What a great start to her professional career."

Now in their 8th year, the Young Creative Network Student Awards exist to unearth and showcase emerging creative excellence. Based around a collection of live creative briefs; the awards are supported by the many Universities, Colleges and Art & Design Schools across the UK.

University College Falmouth is the only independent Higher Education institution in Cornwall with the powers to award degrees in its own name.  It has two campuses in Cornwall - at Woodlane in Falmouth and Tremough in Penryn (which it owns, and jointly manages with the University of Exeter) - and a third campus at Totnes in Devon, following its merger with Dartington College of Arts in 2008.

This merger created a new institution focusing on the expansion of Falmouth's expertise in Art, Design and Media and Dartington's expertise in Choreography, Music, Theatre, Art and Writing.  The Devon-based courses will relocate to a new, high-specification Performance Centre at Tremough in 2010, paving the way for a new specialist Arts University in Cornwall by 2013/2014 that will be unique to the South West.

The University College is a founding partner in the Combined Universities in Cornwall (CUC), a unique initiative to promote regional economic regeneration through Higher Education, funded mainly by the European Union (Objective One and Convergence), the South West Regional Development Agency, and the Higher Education Funding Council for England, with support from Cornwall Council.
