If you have a burning ambition to express yourself creatively, unlock your hidden potential or develop new skills that challenge your imagination, then the five-day Printmaking Summer School in July at University College Falmouth (UCF) is for you.
Artists such as Rembrandt, Renoir, Picasso, and Degas, all used printmaking in the creation of their work and you can follow in their footsteps to create your very own La Danse a la Campagne or Blue Period.
UCF has over 25 years experience of running this successful and extremely popular summer school, the course has evolved into a tailor-made creative workshop where professionals and beginners work alongside each other to create art using processes and techniques that have been used for thousands of years.
You will be joining award winning printmaking experts, Jesse Leroy Smith, Becky Haughton and Sue Corke. Jesse studied painting at the Norwich School of Art and the Royal Academy and exhibits in the UK and abroad. He uses the diverse cultural and historic influences gained from his world-wide travels, most recently in China, to inform his work and co-curated a series of exhibitions and events called Revolver last year, reflecting the dynamic contemporary art scene in Cornwall.
Becky graduated from University College Falmouth with a first class honours degree in Fine Art and specializes in drawing and printmaking. Becky creates remarkable work using a full repertoire of etching techniques and uses traditional and contemporary forms of printed materials.
Jesse and Becky will be supported by expert technician, Sue Corke, a printmaker and illustrator who studied Fine Art and Digital Arts at Middlesex University and graduated from University College Falmouth in 2007 with an MA in Illustration: Authorial Practice.
"Some people come on the course to consolidate their art practice; others are finding their way back into Art after a long absence whilst for others, it may be the only chance in the year to make artwork. Whatever level experience people have, the course enables them to leave with renewed confidence and pleasure in their creativity whilst enjoying themselves in the process."

The course focuses on autographic and photographic work in intaglio media, etching, aquatint, collograph, lithography, plate and stone, relief media, woodcut, linocut and silkscreen printing as well as basic workshop practice, safety procedures and introductory demonstrations in printmaking processes. You will be given access to the Printmaking studio and encouraged to develop your ideas experimenting with the new and traditional techniques of printmaking.
Dr Jeremy Richards, the College's Director of Research & Enterprise, said: "Each of our summer school courses have been developed from the College's existing degree courses and we are delighted to have such outstanding experts deliver them. The printmaking summer school is an exciting and very creative course enabling participants to celebrate traditional techniques using contemporary applications to print on paper, cloth and stone."

University College Falmouth is the only independent Higher Education institution in Cornwall with the powers to award degrees in its own name. It has two campuses in Cornwall - at Woodlane in Falmouth and Tremough in Penryn (which it owns, and jointly manages with the University of Exeter) - and a third campus at Totnes in Devon, following its merger with Dartington College of Arts in 2008.
This merger created a new institution focusing on the expansion of Falmouth's expertise in Art, Design and Media and Dartington's expertise in Choreography, Music, Theatre, Art and Writing. The Devon-based courses will relocate to a new, high-specification Performance Centre at Tremough in 2010, paving the way for a new specialist Arts University in Cornwall by 2012, that will be unique to the South West.
The College is a founding partner in the Combined Universities in Cornwall (CUC), a unique initiative to promote regional economic regeneration through Higher Education, funded mainly by the European Union, the South West Regional Development Agency, and the Higher Education Funding Council for England, with support from Cornwall County Council.
