52 reasons to catch the latest textile exhibition

An intriguing exhibition from Textile Design students opens at The Poly in Falmouth on 9 May, and covers the diverse methods behind the production of textiles.

52 Seconds

52 seconds is an ambitious exhibition organised by the 52 students on Level 2 of the Textile Design course at University College Falmouth. It will cover the realm of textile production; from manual printing to digital weaving through to laser cutting.

The students’ sources of inspiration have produced textiles to satisfy a specific end use. The main use of the fabrics is that the designs would be sold to either fashion or interiors fabric design companies or manufacturers.  However, some of designs will be designed as gallery pieces, others will be entered in international exhibitions and a few have been created for use as wallpaper.

“We anticipate an exciting and varied show this year. The work exhibited shows the diversity of individual interests and ambitions of our student group at the mid-point of their course,” says BA(Hons) Textile Design Course Leader, Di Downs. “Most of the work on display will be the student’s first large scale textile production pieces, based on briefs that they have compiled themselves,“ adds Di. “The show at the Falmouth Poly is a great opportunity for the students to get an external response to their work. Come along and tell us what you think!”

52 seconds is open to the public from 10am until 4pm and runs until Saturday 12 May.
