A prepared slide by Jane Morgan

Visitors to Trebah Gardens between 27 February and 20 March will be treated to an extreme "up close and personal" exhibition in a collaboration between first year students studying BA(Hons) Marine & Natural History Photography at University College Falmouth and the garden.

The microscopic detail of plant life is not something you see every day and visitors will have the chance to sample the wonders of this fascinating micro world through the medium of photography.

As part of a microscopy and macro project students have spent a number of days at Trebah photographing and documenting the plant life. Darren Dickey, head gardener at Trebah, shared some of his wealth of knowledge with the students by taking them on a guided tour of the glorious gardens. This enabled the snappers to choose a favoured area or particular fauna to study and photograph. A small collection of specimens were also collected and taken back to the laboratory on campus to be prepared, viewed and photographed through microscopes at various magnifications.

Jane Morgan, one of the students exhibiting at Trebah said; "This project has been a real eye opener for all of us. I really didn't expect the micro images to reveal such incredible detail and beauty, it's like peering into another dimension."

Another student, Carol Scarr said; "I think it's been a great opportunity to discover and experiment with different styles of photography and mixing science with art".

Claire Vickers, Marketing Manager from Trebah said; "We are delighted to continue our relationship with Universisty College Falmouth and the first year students of the Marine & Natural History Photography degree course. Trebah has been hosting these exhibitions for the past 3 years and each one has been refreshingly different, full of energy, passion and enthusiasm for the subject. It is fascinating to discover and reveal the beauty of the plant life here at Trebah, using microscopic technology and the art of photography. We hope visitors to the garden will be drawn into this hidden world and learn more about what can be seen, and unseen, by the naked eye".
