As University College Falmouth (UCF) and the University of Exeter in Cornwall (UoE) prepare to welcome new and returning students for a new academic year, the institutions are launching a community issues telephone line and email address that will enable local residents to raise any concerns they might have about university-related issues.

The community issues telephone number is 01326 255666 and the email address is community@tremoughwoodlane.com

The phone line will be staffed for two hours per day, initially between the hours of 9.30am and 11.30am, Monday to Friday, and will offer a voicemail facility at other times. Staff will then evaluate the messages and let callers know who they are directing their concern to between those hours on the next working day. Emails will be handled in the same way.

Parking issues will be directed to the Travel Plan Coordinator; concerns relating to planning and campus development will be passed to the Development and Planning Manager; issues relating to private sector accommodation, noise nuisance and anti-social behaviour will be forwarded to the Living Support Coordinator and Private Sector Liaison Officer; and general enquiries about community engagement will be conveyed to UCF's Head of Public Affairs, for reply.

"The purpose of this new service is to provide a single point of contact for people wishing to raise concerns and queries with University College Falmouth and the University of Exeter in Cornwall relating to the Tremough and Woodlane Campuses," explained Campus Services Director, Lucy Black. "We very much hope that this sends out a clear signal to our wider community that we are committed to working together to resolve issues. This new system will allow us to guage the level of feeling, monitor call volume and trends, and be even more responsive in terms of identifying solutions."

UCF and UoE are founding partners in the Combined Universities in Cornwall (CUC), a unique initiative to promote regional economic regeneration through Higher Education, funded mainly by the European Union (Objective One and Convergence), the South West Regional Development Agency and the Higher Education Funding Council for England, with support from Cornwall Council.

About University College Falmouth

UCF is the only independent Higher Education institution in Cornwall with the right to award degrees in its own name. The University College has two campuses - at Woodlane in Falmouth and Tremough in Penryn (which it owns and jointly manages with the University of Exeter).

UCF's merger with Dartington College of Arts in 2008 created a new institution focusing on the expansion of Falmouth's expertise in Art, Design and Media and Dartington's expertise in Dance, Music, Theatre, Art and Writing. The Dartington-based courses have now relocated to an impressive, high-specification £19M Performance Centre at the Tremough Campus, which launches this October. The European Union's Regional Development Fund invested £12,266,667 in this development which will prepare performance students for success within the creative industries. The South West Regional Development Agency's Single Pot Fund contributed a further £3M, with the remainder being invested by the Higher Education Funding Council for England's Strategic Development Fund.

The Performance Centre is the latest phase in UCF's ambition to create a new specialist Arts University in Cornwall by 2013/2014 that will be unrivalled in the South West.
