Stamp of success for Graphic Design at UCF

BA(Hons) Graphic Design students triumphed once again in the prestigeous Royal Society of Arts (RSA) Design Directions awards, which address social issues through innovative design.
The course has produced winners in the Stamp category for the past six years and nine times out of the previous eleven. This year, Lynessa Hancock won the Royal Mail Award of £2,500 and Sam Bestwick was awarded a Royal Mail Award of £850 to support a four-week internship at Lewis Moberly for designs that explored renewable energy and global warming.
In the Starpack Student Awards for packaging design, Hannah Crossley's re-design of the Carte Noir Coffee Experience has been commended.
In the International Society of Typographic Designers (ISTD) Annual Student Assessment Scheme which judges typographic integrity, Huda Aziz has been awarded a Merit, and Vicky Barlow, Alan Clarke, Josh Hanson, Mike McCabe, Jinisha Patel and Michael Stephens have achieved Passes.
At the Global D&AD Student Design Awards Ceremony, Vicky Barlow won the First Prize Student Yellow Pencil for her packaging and point-of-sale material for Homebase's 'grow your own' fruit and vegetable range for novice gardeners and projects by Al Hamp, Danielle Millington-Peck and Lizzy Frost will be included in the 2009 Student Design Awards Annual.
At D&AD's New Blood Exhibition, twenty-five individuals were selected from approximately 2,000 students, for Best New Blood Awards, the industry's answer to the Oscar's, for the quality and presentation of their work and one of these awards was presented to Alan Clarke.
"The quality and consistency of these achievements speak volumes for the guidance and support that our students receive," said Rector, Professor Alan Livingston. "I warmly congratulate everyone involved."

There is a limited number of places available on UCF's degree courses in 3D Design and Garden Design, Contemporary Crafts and Spatial Design, Textile Design and Fashion Design, Interior Design and Performance Sportswear Design for October 2009 entry as a result of our ambitious plans to increase our student population in order to achieve Arts University Cornwall by 2012/2013.
University College Falmouth is the only independent Higher Education institution in Cornwall with the powers to award degrees in its own name. It has two campuses in Cornwall - at Woodlane in Falmouth and Tremough in Penryn (which it owns, and jointly manages with the University of Exeter) - and a third campus at Totnes in Devon, following its merger with Dartington College of Arts in 2008.
This merger created a new institution focusing on the expansion of Falmouth's expertise in Art, Design and Media and Dartington's expertise in Choreography, Music, Theatre, Art and Writing. The Devon-based courses will relocate to a new, high-specification Performance Centre at Tremough in 2010, paving the way for a new specialist Arts University in Cornwall by 2012/2013 that will be unique to the South West.
The College is a founding partner in the Combined Universities in Cornwall (CUC), a unique initiative to promote regional economic regeneration through Higher Education, funded mainly by the European Union (Objective One), the South West Regional Development Agency, and the Higher Education Funding Council for England, with support from Cornwall Council.
