An exhibition of brave and bold images by BA(Hons) Press & Editorial Photography students from University College Falmouth, who are already achieving national acclaim as The PressGang, was launched on Monday 5 January in conjunction with London-based professional photography suppliers, Calumet at their London headquarters in Drummond Street.

The Falmouth-based students are all in their 2nd-year and The First Edition is their inaugural exhibition at Calumet with 30 thought-provoking images capturing the ever-changing and fast-paced world of editorial, documentary, photo journalism and press photography, highlighting the professionalism, skills and imagination taught at University College Falmouth and essential to making their mark in this demanding industry.
The free exhibition is open to all and can be seen from Tuesday 6 January to Friday 30 January from 8.30am to 5.30pm Monday to Friday, 9am to 5.30pm on Saturday and 10am to 4pm on Sunday.
Many top industry professionals attended the Private View on Monday evening including Fiona Rogers, the education liaison officer and photographer, Peter Marlow both from Magnum, the photographic agency established in 1947 by legendary names in photojournalism such as Robert Capa and Henri Cartier-Bresson, who chose University College Falmouth's BA(Hons) Press & Editorial Photography course as a partner in its new educational programme to mark its 60th anniversary last year.
Editorial photographers, George Brooks and Caroline Malloy; freelance picture editor and documentary film maker, Lindsey Maggs and renowned photojournalist Jenny Matthews were also present and appreciated the variety of approaches that were on show. Jenny Matthews will be speaking at University College Falmouth on 20th January as one of the guests of the Press & Editorial Photography degree course at the annual Photography Symposium held at University College Falmouth's Tremough Campus in Penryn, where speakers from every corner of the photographic world converge to share their experience and knowledge of contemporary photography with current students.
"The students have been working really hard to present their work to the best of their ability for this exhibition at the mid-point of their development" said award-winning press photographer and Course Leader, Mal Stone. "We were delighted when Calumet, the professional photography suppliers, became interested in supporting the course as our philosophy is to give the students the skills, technique, confidence and imagination to hit the ground running when they graduate and part of that philosophy is also understanding how to use the latest equipment which, thanks to Calumet, they now have the opportunity to use".
Andy Taylor, Sales Operations Manager at Calumet commented, "Calumet understands that photography students are the professionals of the future, and our ongoing work with students and colleges is particularly rewarding for us. It's so refreshing to be able to work closely with colleges such as Falmouth whose lecturers, such as Mal Stone, demonstrate such inspiring commitment to preparing students with a professional and work-focused mind set."
The exhibition has already been such a huge success that Calumet are already looking for further dates to showcase students work later in the year and Magnum photographer, Peter Marlow will be visiting the students in Cornwall to give a lecture and live assignment over three days in February this year.

University College Falmouth is the only independent Higher Education institution in Cornwall with the powers to award degrees in its own name. It has two campuses in Cornwall - at Woodlane in Falmouth and Tremough in Penryn (which it owns, and jointly manages with the University of Exeter) - and a third campus at Totnes in Devon, following its merger with Dartington College of Arts in 2008.
This merger created a new institution focusing on the expansion of Falmouth's expertise in Art, Design and Media and Dartington's expertise in Choreography, Music, Theatre, Art and Writing. The Devon-based courses will relocate to a new, high-specification Performance Centre at Tremough in 2010, paving the way for a new specialist Arts University in Cornwall by 2012, that will be unique to the South West.
The College is a founding partner in the Combined Universities in Cornwall (CUC), a unique initiative to promote regional economic regeneration through Higher Education, funded mainly by the European Union, the South West Regional Development Agency, and the Higher Education Funding Council for England, with support from Cornwall County Council.
