LtoR: Joe Talboys and Alex AllenMA Creative Advertising graduates, Joe Talboys and Alex Allen have been named as the best young creative team in the UK by the Newspaper Society after they won its ‘the wanted ads' young team of the year competition.

At the London Art House last Friday, the contestants were briefed by HSBC's agency JWT to devise a campaign for the bank's World Section global investment service which highlighted the fact it uses local expertise in markets across the world and were given just eight hours to create the campaign.

Each submission was judged by a panel of senior agency figures, chaired by Al Young, creative partner of St Luke's, the longest running independent creative agency in London, who deemed Joe and Alex' local media campaign which listed strands of market information from across the world such as a rise in the price of sugar in Africa followed by a detailed piece of local knowledge such as a curry night in the local pub, as the winning work.

Joe said: "We were absolutely thrilled to win young team of the year, and had a great day at the London Art House. As well as the great opportunity to work on a live brief, the competition allows you to meet lots of like-minded junior teams."

Joe and Alex are both graduates of the MA Creative Advertising course at UCF. Alex joined the one year full-time MA course in 2006 with a BA(Hons) in Graphic Design from Coventry University whilst Joe joined in 2007 with a BA(Hons) in Media and Culture from Kingston University - and have forged a hot creative team after meeting post graduation in London.

They will now compete in the European contest Best Young Creative Team, which pits young creatives from across the continent against each other for two days.

University College Falmouth is the only independent Higher Education institution in Cornwall with the powers to award degrees in its own name. It has two campuses in Cornwall - at Woodlane in Falmouth and Tremough in Penryn (which it owns, and jointly manages with the University of Exeter) - and a third campus at Totnes in Devon, following its merger with Dartington College of Arts in 2008.

This merger created a new institution focusing on the expansion of Falmouth's expertise in Art, Design and Media and Dartington's expertise in Choreography, Music, Theatre, Art and Writing. The Devon-based courses will relocate to a new, high-specification Performance Centre at Tremough in 2010, paving the way for a new specialist Arts University in Cornwall by 2012, that will be unique to the South West.

The College is a founding partner in the Combined Universities in Cornwall (CUC), a unique initiative to promote regional economic regeneration through Higher Education, funded mainly by the European Union, the South West Regional Development Agency, and the Higher Education Funding Council for England, with support from Cornwall County Council.
