Josie and the Lovecats, who will be performing at the BUCS Surfing Championships.
A group of students participating in a ten-week music event management project organised by the Regional Educational Legacy in Arts and Youth Sport Programme (RELAYS) and University College Falmouth (UCF), is on the lookout for a new or unsigned band to play at the British Universities and Colleges Sports (BUCS) Surfing Championships in Newquay on Saturday 17 October.

Throughout the summer, Truro College students, Bex Gallagher and Rose Goodship, along with recent graduate Aaron Connelly-Bayliss joined Alex Parlby from the Livewire Music Project and Luke Stevenson from Newquay Tretherras School to work alongside music industry professionals such as Nick Webb of Bare Feet Promotions, Louise Martin from St Austell Bay radio, Ryan Jones of The Hitchcock Rules and Steve Yelland, of SPS-Audio and University College Falmouth students to create an exciting event encompassing music, art and film to take place at Newquay's Fistral Blu Bar Bistro, during the Championships.

RELAYS is the South West's Legacy Trust UK and Higher Education Funding Council for England-funded programme of sport and culture that has been initiated in the lead up to the 2012 Olympic Games in London. Its aim is to enable young people considering a career in music or events management industries to gain practical experience of organising and staging a live music event, whilst offering a golden opportunity for new talent to perform.

Nick Webb of Bare Feet Promotions working with Aaron Connelly-Bayliss, one of the project participants on the site plan at Fistral Blu Beach Bar. Nick Webb, one of the project mentors added, "The group has worked hard to create an event which is shaping up to ne a fantastic experience for everyone, and they will hopefully take the knowledge and experience they have gained from this project to organise many more events in the future."

All bands interested in performing at this event should send a link to their MySpace page to tamsin.godfrey@falmouth.ac.uk by Tuesday 29 September 2009.
