A band made up of thirteen students from across the Music degree programme will be playing at The Royal Albert Hall, London on Monday 7 November following gigs at regional and national showcases run by Music for Youth.

As part of their first year studies in world music the musicians were asked to get together in a group to perform a style of music that has its roots in a different country. As many of the group had a love of Eastern European folk and gypsy music they opted to use Klezmer, the musical tradition of the Ashkenazic Jews of Eastern Europeans adding to it their own modern and youthful twist. The resulting piece was awarded a first degree mark.

Buoyed by this success and the encouragement of the academic staff at UCF the group decided to continue practicing together. From they had successful gigs at The King's Arms in Penryn, Truro Methodist Church, Plymouth City Centre and at The Performance Centre, University College Falmouth. The gig in Truro was run by the organization 'Music for Youth' and after this regional showcase they were asked to play at the national showcase in Birmingham which has in turn led to the invitation to play at The Royal Albert Hall.

The Klezbians will now realize their dream of performing in one of the world's most iconic venues as they perform in one of three inspirational concerts at the Music for Youth Schools Prom on Monday 7 November in front of an audience including VIP's such as David Cameron.

Why the Klezbians? None of the band members are entirely sure why they chose this name other than it being memorable and funny.

As a band there is a plethora of musical possibilities open to them due to the number of instruments they use, including a variety of guitars, "Pots ‘n' Pans", an accordion, drums, saxophones, a piano, trumpet, mandolin and a violin. They intend to record some of their tracks professionally at UCF's new recording studio imminently.

The Royal Albert Hall was built to fulfil the vision of Prince Albert (Queen Victoria's consort) of a 'Central Hall' that would be used to promote understanding and appreciation of the Arts and Sciences and would stand at the heart of the South Kensington estate, surrounded by museums and places of learning.
