Work from the Art, Design, Media and Performance-based Masters degrees at University College Falmouth is open to the public this week with MA Fine Art: Contemporary Practice students breaking away from tradition and pledging to use proceeds from the sale of 100 limited edition pieces to raise money for a ShelterBox destined for flood-hit Pakistan.

The MA Fine Art: Contemporary Practice students have produced 100 limited edition A5 boxes that contain ten representative samples of work by MA students and staff. The numbered boxes are named Kyst (the Cornish/Kernewek word for box) and will be available to buy at £5 each during the shows. Once each box has been sold, the £500 raised will enable one ShelterBox to be sent to Pakistan.

Daro Montag, Course Leader of the MA Fine Art: Contemporary Practice commented: "We are thrilled to be raising money rather than asking for it.  We are hoping everyone will benefit from visiting the shows by having the unique opportunity to not only view the work but also buy a collection of artists' multiples at a very reasonable price, and in doing so make a small contribution to the people of Pakistan through the hard work of ShelterBox."

The boxes will be available to buy from Larmorva House on the Woodlane Campus, Falmouth.

Work from all the Art, Design, Media and Performance-based Masters degrees will open to the public on Tuesday 7 to Saturday 11 September at the Woodlane Campus and will give the public an exciting opportunity to view an exciting range of work created during one year of intense and explorative and creative study by the latest MA graduates.

University College Falmouth is the only independent Higher Education institution in Cornwall with the right to award degrees in its own name.  UCF has two campuses - at Woodlane in Falmouth and Tremough in Penryn (which it owns and jointly manages with the University of Exeter).

UCF's merger with Dartington College of Arts in 2008 created a new institution focusing on the expansion of Falmouth's expertise in Art, Design and Media and Dartington's expertise in Dance, Music, Theatre, Art and Writing.  The Dartington-based courses are relocating to Cornwall this summer to a high-specification £15.4M Performance Centre at the Tremough Campus that will launch in September 2010, paving the way for the creation of a new specialist Arts University in Cornwall by 2013/2014 that will be unique to the South West.

UCF is a founding partner in the Combined Universities in Cornwall (CUC), a unique initiative to promote regional economic regeneration through Higher Education, funded mainly by the European Union (Objective One and Convergence), the South West Regional Development Agency and the Higher Education Funding Council for England, with support from Cornwall Council.
