Follow the Trail
Five businesses and galleries in Truro are playing host for the first time to a public exhibition by second year BA(Hons) Contemporary Crafts students from 2 - 9 February.  It is also the first time that many of the students will have shown their work, at a midpoint in their studies, in a public setting.

Called ‘Follow the Trail,' the exhibition is designed to engage the public in a range of venues around Truro and will take them to streets or courtyards that may be regarded as ‘off the beaten track'.  Neil Scott, BID Manager for Totally Truro commented, "Launching the Contemporary Crafts Exhibition in Truro with a trail across a variety of venues is an excellent idea and really supports the idea of connecting artists and students to different venues and businesses in the city. This will bring new audiences to those locations and will also provide the opportunity for participating students to work in new spaces and with new partners. It's a great initiative - here's to more Art in the City!"

Julien Boast, Director of Hall for Cornwall - one of the five venues- added, "Hall For Cornwall is delighted to be part of ‘Follow the Trail'.  We work hard to support cultural activities in Cornwall and wish it much success."

The Contemporary Crafts course at UCF adopts an innovative and flexible approach to contemporary crafts and visitors to the exhibition can expect to see a range of small-scale to large-scale artworks that often explore themes and issues in society today and utilise a broad spectrum of materials including: ceramics; textiles; woods; metals; glass; resins; and recycled materials.

Jason Cleverly, Award Leader of BA(Hons) Contemporary Crafts said, "Showing work to the general public is a vital and significant opportunity for developing students and presenting work in these varied and distinguished venues provides a fantastic platform for emerging makers. It helps to make them think in a more sophisticated way about what they are trying to say with their work, and to get a broad range of opinions and views. Both staff and students are tremendously grateful to the venues in Truro for giving the students this marvellous showcase."

Admission to the exhibition is free and can be viewed from 10am-4pm, 2 - 9 February 2012 at:
