Bunty's water rainbow by Greg Dennis

First year BA(Hons) Press & Editorial Photography student at University College Falmouth, (UCF). Greg Dennis has won £400 worth of holiday vouchers in a photography competition held by Helpful Holidays. His winning photo, Bunty's water rainbow shows his dog playing in the river Teign, Devon.

Greg's Grandmother and Great Aunt were born and grew up in Chagford, Devon and this year the extended family decided to reminisce and return to the area for a holiday. During the week the family re visited stepping stones on the River Teign that his Grandmother used to run across when she was in her teens.  The family dog, a black Labrador named Bunty joined them and whilst she dived for a rock, Greg, standing in the water captured the moment her tail sprayed a rainbow of water droplets and in doing so, snapped the winning shot.

"The Press & Editorial Photography course at UCF was the only course I wanted to do and so spurred on by my acceptance onto it I was determined to take more photographs over the summer before arriving in Falmouth" said Greg. "During my family holiday I was lucky enough to capture this magic moment and was delighted to learn after I started at Falmouth that I had won the prize - a fantastic start to a fantastic course!"

"We are really thrilled that Greg has won this prize for his photography given that he has only been on the course for just seven weeks", said Mal Stone, Award Leader, BA(Hons) Press & Editorial Photography. "This is mirroring the standard and quality of editorial photography that our students are producing on the course."

Greg is from Marlborough where he attended St John's School before joining UCF's Press & Editorial Photography course this Autumn. He initially attended UCF's Pressgang Juniors day where prospective applicants to the Press & Editorial Photography course are able to visit UCF in order to gain an insight into the course, meet staff and current students and attend workshops. The course runs a number of such days throughout the year with two planned for Wednesday 8 and Thursday 9 December 2010. Interested participants should email tasterdays@falmouth.ac.uk or telephone 01326 213706 for further information or to book a place.

UCF is the only independent Higher Education institution in Cornwall with the right to award degrees in its own name.  The University College has two campuses - at Woodlane in Falmouth and Tremough in Penryn (which it owns and jointly manages with the University of Exeter).

UCF's merger with Dartington College of Arts in 2008 created a new institution focusing on the expansion of Falmouth's expertise in Art, Design and Media and Dartington's expertise in Dance, Music, Theatre, Art and Writing.  The Dartington-based courses have now relocated to an impressive, high-specification £19M Performance Centre at the Tremough Campus, which launches this October.  The ERDF (European Regional Development Fund) Convergence Programme invested £12,266,667 in this development which will prepare performance students for success within the creative industries.  The South West Regional Development Agency's Single Pot Fund contributed a further £3M, with the remainder being invested by the Higher Education Funding Council for England's Strategic Development Fund.

The Performance Centre is the latest phase in UCF's ambition to create a new specialist Arts University in Cornwall by 2013/2014 that will be unrivalled in the South West.

UCF is a founding partner in the Combined Universities in Cornwall (CUC), a unique initiative to promote regional economic regeneration through Higher Education, funded mainly by the European Union (Objective One and Convergence), the South West Regional Development Agency and the Higher Education Funding Council for England, with support from Cornwall Council.
