Extending from a developing relationship with leading UK production company Warp Films, the BA(Hons) Film course at University College Falmouth (UCF) has secured seven prestigious internships at Warp's London offices in 2010 for its students and graduates.

These valuable opportunities follow the success of the substantial FilmatFalmouth lecture series which have featured visits from Warp Films' Producer, Mary Burke and video director James Caddick.

Dates for Level 2 and 3 internships fall over the summer break with three internships between July and September followed by four places for graduates between October and December.

Earlier in the year, third year Falmouth Film student Jamie Isbell spent three weeks at Warp Films working as part of the productions and development team where he gained invaluable insights into the film industry. Jamie had the opportunity to read scripts, including a short by Jake Chapman, and assisted on the initial stages of new productions, including a new feature by Katalin Varga director Peter Strickland. He also met Four Lions director Chris Morris. This work included a diverse range of experience from starting up a file sharing system for producers to access to contributing to the production's packaging by gathering research on visuals and audio.

Jamie commented: "The most outstanding thing about Warp is how normal it is. The team of producers are all huge successes in their own right, but working with them never seemed exclusive. They were an open and relaxed team, which allowed me to gain some really great experience."

"These experiences stand Falmouth students in good stead when they graduate and pursue jobs in the media industries," said Kingsley Marshall, lecturer on BA(Hons) Film at Falmouth, "To have secured these industry placements is testament both to the reputation of the Film course and the professionalism of its students and we are delighted and very grateful to Warp for this unique opportunity."

Warp Films has established itself as one of the UK's leading production companies over the last few years, producing Shane Meadows' films and forthcoming TV series for Channel Four This is England 86, in addition to championing the work of acclaimed directors such as Harmony Korine and Xialu Guo. In addition, they have supported the work of a number of new British directors including Paul King's Bunny and The Bull, Chris Morris' acclaimed Four Lions, and the forthcoming debut feature from Richard Ayoade, Submarine.

University College Falmouth is the only independent Higher Education institution in Cornwall with the right to award degrees in its own name.  UCF has two campuses - at Woodlane in Falmouth and Tremough in Penryn (which it owns and jointly manages with the University of Exeter).

UCF's merger with Dartington College of Arts in 2008 created a new institution focusing on the expansion of Falmouth's expertise in Art, Design and Media and Dartington's expertise in Dance, Music, Theatre, Art and Writing.  The Dartington-based courses are relocating to Cornwall this summer to a high-specification £15.4M Performance Centre at the Tremough Campus that will launch in September 2010, paving the way for the creation of a new specialist Arts University in Cornwall by 2013/2014 that will be unique to the South West.

UCF is a founding partner in the Combined Universities in Cornwall (CUC), a unique initiative to promote regional economic regeneration through Higher Education, funded mainly by the European Union (Objective One and Convergence), the South West Regional Development Agency and the Higher Education Funding Council for England, with support from Cornwall Council.
