An exhibition of Masters in Art and Design

Monday, 05 September 2011

An exhibition of work from the Art and Design-based Masters degrees at University College Falmouth (UCF) is open to the public from Tuesday 6 September. The show is an opportunity to view a diverse range of final projects of graduating MA students and it will be the first year to see a graduating cohort from the new course, MA Art & Environment.

Whether being grounded in professional practice, creating imaginative scenarios, following a line of enquiry, testing ideas or experimenting with materials, the work in this exhibition marks the culmination of a period of intense re-evaluation or experimentation. Each graduating student researches a specific area of interest or concern to inform the production of a critical and creative practice: they aim to communicate issues, raise awareness, stimulate audiences and provoke actions.

Visitors will also see work from: MA Illustration Authorial Practice; MAs in Design; MA Curatorial Practice; MA Photography; MA 20th Century Art & Design History & Theories; and MA Fine Art Contemporary Practices' themed show, ‘This Will Make You Human'.

The exhibition is open from 10am-4pm, 6 - 10 September 2011 at UCF's Woodlane Campus.

The MA Art & Environment graduates will also be exhibiting at Kestle Barton, Manaccan, Helston TR12 6HU from 10.30am-5pm, 6 - 11 September 2011.  Their exhibition, Sensing Earth, draws together the work of four artists who each use different methods and mediums to respond to, and engage with, our fellow earth.  Journeying through rhythms and cycles, the artists open dialogues and tell stories to evoke a deeper understanding of our place as part of the global eco-system.

The public are also invited to view work from ‘The Last Picture Show,' which brings together for the first time the work of 12 international contemporary artists.  This group of part time Fine Art Contemporary Practice students will show inspiring works at the end of their first year, spanning the mediums of painting, video, installation, photography and sound.

‘The Last Picture Show' runs from 10am-4pm, 7 - 10 September 2011 at UCF's Arwenack Annexe building on Arwenack Avenue, Falmouth.

The building dates back 1902, when it was the original home for the then named Falmouth School of Art.  In 1902 the venue offered privately taught classes in traditional techniques such as freehand drawing, model drawing, drawing in light and shade as well as lessons in painting. Over 100 years on, the Annexe continues to nurture contemporary artists in developing unique ways of thinking and creating in the world today.  For more details on the The Last Picture Show and exhibiting artists, visit http://www.thelastpictureshow.eu/

Admission is free to all shows.
