You can save money and still have a great time in Falmouth and Penryn.
1. Falmouth art gallery
A multi-award winning town gallery housing works by Francis Bacon, Kurt Jackson, Henry Moore and Quentin Blake, amongst others.
2. Falmouth farmers market
You can find this lovely market at the Moor in the heart of Falmouth, selling a variety of local produce every Tuesday.
3. Vintage flea market
Hosted in different venues throughout Falmouth and Penryn on the last Saturday of every month. This is a gorgeous market with many treasures to discover.
4. Festivals
There's often a Falmouth festival to take part in, with lots of free activities, music, food and much more.
- The Real Ale Festival - With over 200 real ales and ciders.
- Falmouth Oyster Festival - Learn to dredge, shuck and cook delicious Cornish oysters.
- Sea Shanty Festival - Musical events and sea shanty choirs.
- Fal River Festival - A week long summer celebration with its own fringe, performance, music and exhibitions.
- Cornwall Film Festival - A chance for students to get involved with local, national and international film talent every November.
5. Jam
A wonderful little coffee shop on the high street, full of CDs, DVDs, vinyls, magazines and photography for you to browse through. They sell some great local music and literature, so get involved.
6. Gylly beach
Gylly beach is a wonderful place to relax and swim, or you can walk above it, gazing at the view all the way to Pendennis Castle. There's also the Gylly Beach Café which overlooks the beach and does curry and a pint for £5 every Sunday.
7. Miss Peapod's
A riverside café in the lovely Jubilee Wharf in Penryn. It often has events and bands on for free and sells local, organic and fairtrade food and drink.
8. Knit club
Falmouth Knit Club can be found at Hand every Wednesday. Whether you're a beginner working on a scarf, or knitting your whole wardrobe, this is a great place to meet up and get knitting.
9. Telltales
A creative writing and storytelling evening on the last Tuesday of every month. Read out some of your writing or just listen over a drink. A great way to meet local writers and artists.
10. Open mic and karaoke nights
Many of the pubs in Falmouth and Penryn host karaoke nights or open mic nights, where you can sing, play your own songs or belt out some covers. The Front, Number 20, The Star & Garter and Mango Tango are just a few places you can perform in.
