Exhibitors

Jamie Rickett of Truro College was amazed to have won the Graphics category. He said: "I am really happy to receive this award and would like to say a big thank you to Doug for all the hours he put in helping the group. I am looking forward to joining UCF's Foundation Diploma later this year to develop my ideas further."

Ergonomic chair by Nick Coleing Innovative and diverse designs were submitted from the length and breadth of Cornwall, including a pop-up book by Pippa Alston from Mullion School, designed to help young children improve their skills in number work, and a chair by Andrew Barnes from Budehaven Community School, inspired by the flying V rock guitar. Other pioneering work on display encompassed lighting, food, gardening, transport, fashion and furniture, recycling, games, toys and musical instruments.

Special occasion fair trade dessert by Sophie Pearn DesignEd. in Cornwall originated through a partnership between Richard Scott, Design & Technology Team Leader/AST at Richard Lander School, who had the idea of creating a large-scale exhibition of design and technology projects, and John Miller, UCF's Director of Design, who has worked closely with Richard to turn his original idea into a reality.

Offshore tidal energy project by Melody Jones"It's important that we celebrate the talent coming out of Cornish schools and encourage more of our young people to consider careers in design. Design today is no longer just about designing and producing a functional item, it's about how we interact with design in our everyday lives and ensuring that when our students graduate, they are ready to play a leading role in shaping the future for business communities and the environment." John Miller, Director of Design
