What is DesignEd. in Cornwall?

DesignEd. in Cornwall is a showcase of design and technology work by around 400 GCSE and A level students from secondary schools and tertiary colleges across Cornwall. Organised in collaboration with University College Falmouth, the first DesignEd. in Cornwall exhibition took place in June 2008 and the 2011 eventwill see students from 24 schools exhibiting. DesignEd. in Cornwall aims to celebrate the design talent coming out of Cornish schools, and encourage more school pupils to consider a career in Design.

Where does it take place?

DesignEd. in Cornwall takes place at the Design Centre, University College Falmouth Tremough Campus, Penryn TR10 9EZ. The Design Centre is part of a £130 million development funded under the Combined Universities in Cornwall (CUC) initiative. It provides impressive facilities for degree courses in Contemporary Crafts, 3D Design, Textile Design and Interior Design, and also houses a Research Cluster in 3D Digital Production. The Awards Ceremony is for students who are exhibiting and their friends, teachers and families. We'd also like to welcome any other schools that are interested but may not be exhibiting this year. How should we present our exhibition?

DesignEd in Cornwall 2008 For consistency of presentation we would like all participating schools to use our boards (white painted blockboard). We will also provide tables with white coverings and dress stands (size 10) as required, and subject to availability. Other plinths should be provided by you and ideally be painted white. Not all spaces are the same, but are typically 4m to 8m of wall space.

You must specify your requirements accurately on the form provided. We want to encourage schools and pupils to select their very best work and to promote good presentation - this is the purpose of the "Best School Presentation" award. So please consider carefully the amount of space you need to do justice to the work and not to overcrowd your space.

The final layout will be issued a week before the exhibition, as it needs to be based on the layout of our degree show which takes place the previous week. Bearing in mind the additional participants this year, those exhibitors who had large spaces in 2010 should expect a slightly smaller space. Each school will have floor space, a back wall and table(s) with a white paper covering provided. We'll also supply labels for each piece of work (if you have let us have the information in time).

Our student ambassadors and technical staff will be on hand on the set up day to help you set up.

Will we get any help to set up our exhibition?

Each school should send staff who have a good understanding of how the school's exhibits should be displayed. There will however be a technician on hand to help each school set up. Please consider how you anticipate fixing your exhibition to walls, floors or tables and bring tape, sticky fixers, pins, drawing pins, spray mount, blu-tak as appropriate.

When are the set up times?

9.00am - 7.00pm, Tuesday 28 June
