Kate Milan

kate_milan_web.jpgKate Milan is currently working with concrete and the gradation achievable through layering methods, applying this to the Coastline theme of the Festival. Having mapped two geographical areas, the coast line directly north and south of where she lives, Kate's aim is to reveal the difference between these two sites, if any, and map a fragment of this fragile world. The two cast pieces have been placed in the sea to weather, transformed by tides and time.

This is an evolution from Kate's earlier work, 'Ball and Chain'. The work is heavy, dense, with connotations of burden; repressed thoughts/feelings and memories stacked and compressed, not only does the rusty old chain suggest age but the gauge of it also tells us this is not something from which you can escape.

The exhibition also includes 'Bound by Fear', from the 'Bound' series, Kate says that ‘the work reminds us of the things we know, but thought we had forgotten; re-connecting ourselves and learning to understand how and very often why we feel something'.
