The English Nature

This work takes inspiration from nature's fingerprint- repeated striated patterns and skeletal structures, such as feathers, leaf veins and wood grain. By combining a strong focus on colour and an interest in natural dying, this project encapsulates England's changing seasons and its reflection in heritage fabrics. The atmosphere desired from these fabrics is to celebrate and admire frozen moments in time seen in nature's cycle of growth and decay. This fabric is hand-woven in wild silk, wool lycra, and metallic lurex which have been dyed using a variety of plants such as marigolds, nettles, raspberry leaves, tea, turmeric, madder root, cochineal and indigo.
