Introduction

The Falmouth Landscape & Garden School and the stunning gardens of Cornwall are an unbeatable combination. With such a tempting range of inspirational courses there is certain to be something to suit your needs.Matt Biggs, gardening writer & broadcaster (Radio 4's Gardeners Question Time)

Led by horticulturalist and garden designer Matt James, and garden designer and landscape architect Richard Sneesby, the Falmouth Landscape & Garden School (FLAGS) is built upon both the strengths and successes of the BA(Hons) Garden Design undergraduate course at University College Falmouth, and Cornwall's exception location for studying the subject.

Students and recent graduates have won many prestigious awards including the Society of Garden Designers Student of the Year in both 2007 and 2008, and the Royal Horticultural Society's Young Designer of the Year in 2010 and in 2011. Other accolades include medals for show gardens at the Chelsea Flower Show and Hampton Court, and recent gold medals at Southport, The Cornwall Spring Flower Show and again the Hampton Court Palace Flower Show.

Facilities

Our courses are based in modern studios at University College Falmouth. The subtropical grounds of our Woodlane Campus overlook the famous Fox Rosehill Gardens, within walking distance of Falmouth town centre. We also utilise the rich Cornish landscape, local specialist nurseries and the many unique gardens and landscapes of Cornwall including Trebah and Tresco on the Isles of Scilly.

The University College has extensive learning and teaching resources and a specialist garden and landscape design library, which is open to students on course days.

Holidaying in Cornwall

As well as professional training we have carefully planned courses to give students the opportunity to holiday in the south west. We have links with local hotels, B&Bs, and our own campus-based accommodation, to provide for various group sizes and budgets. We can also advise you on the best local restaurants and eateries to help you have an even more memorable stay.

If you're planning to take a course whilst holidaying with family or friends, we can also help with advice on other activities to occupy the rest of your group during the day.

Our accommodation offers for 2012-13 are currently being finalised and will be published here in the coming weeks. In the meantime, please don't hesitate to get in contact for advice and guidance.

The courses

The lecturers at Falmouth, and their desire for people to really understand the value and importance of gardens and landscape, make this a special place. With great facilities, the extraordinary Cornish landscape and access to a range of other inspiring disciplines, the Falmouth Landscape & Garden School really is an exciting place to learn!Chris Young, Editor of 'The Garden' & Editor-in-Chief of the RHS Encyclopedia of Garden Design

We pride ourselves on offering some of the best garden and landscape design education in the UK, and the courses we have are designed for a range of skills, experience and abilities. Whether you're a practising designer wishing to enhance your portfolio of skills or an enthusiastic amateur with an interest in gardens and garden design - you want to perk up your planting for example - we have practical, forward-thinking courses for you. Many of our professional courses allow students to transfer learning into HE credits, ideal for practitioners wishing to pursue a postgraduate qualification.

All of our lecturers are practising head gardeners, horticulturalists, landscape contractors, award winning garden designers or landscape architects, so bring both significant experience and passion to each and every course.

The first batch of courses on offer at the Falmouth Landscape & Garden School are listed below. Additional courses with Matt Biggs, Will Giles, Robert Myers and James Alexander Sinclair, to name just a few, are currently being finalised. This list will be updated as more courses come online for 2012 and 2013 so do check back regularly.
