Before You Arrive

Preparing to go to university can be a nerve-wracking time, with lots of questions and the relatively unknown lying ahead. We understand your concerns and aim to make your transition to student life as smooth as possible.

HelpMe student forum

Our online chat forum, www.falmouth.ac.uk/helpme (as featured in The Independent newspaper) puts you in touch with other students - both before you start your first term, and once you're here. Through the forum, you can get to know people, share experiences, find out more about your accommodation and who you'll be sharing with, talk to other people on your course, discover more about Dartington, Falmouth and Penryn, and discuss anything else you'd like to know. Examples of threads on the forum include: car shares to the College at the beginning of term; students planning to start a band when they arrive; where to get hold of a bicycle; and tips about the best nightspots from students who are already here.

"I found it a great way to meet people before I arrived," says Contemporary Crafts student, Tara Jeffery. "It meant I didn't feel as alone as I could have, and I knew I wouldn't be moving in with complete strangers." Digital Media student, Claire Hughes, agrees: "I used HelpMe addictively. I lived over 800 miles away but the forum made me feel a lot closer and I made amazing friends through it."

Students joining our Dartington Campus can also connect with each other through the Facebook group, DCASU, and MySpace page, www.myspace.com/dcasu.
