Students Applaud Photography Symposium 2006

University College Falmouth’s annual Photography Symposium features some of the most internationally respected professionals and artists in the industry and 2006’s event was no exception.

This year’s guest speakers packed out the College’s Woodlane Lecture Theatre with students keen to hear indispensable words of advice and anecdotes from such photographic luminaries as Gered Mankowitz, internationally renowned rock photographer whose clients have included The Rolling Stones, Jimi Hendrix and more recently, Oasis.

Other renowned photographers at the lecture sessions throughout the week were Richard West, co-editor of photography magazine Source and Chris Morris, a London-based fashion photographer whose images have been splashed across the pages of FHM, Loaded and Spanish Vogue.

Students were blown away by the excitingly diverse range of imagery accompanying the lectures and words of wisdom that were on offer.

“Every lecture was of a very high calibre,” said BA(Hons) Photography Course Leader, Dave Matthews. “Our photography students had such an amazing opportunity to look at imagery from professionals and artists in the industry, and were encouraged by the speakers to realise the hugely dynamic breadth of opportunity that is out there for every one of them,” he added.

Students attending the three day event were given the opportunity to ask questions and receive feedback on their own personal photographic projects as well as introduce themselves to the very best in the industry.

“These events are crucial ‘networking’ opportunities for the students and offer them the chance to forge useful contacts for their careers when they graduate from University College Falmouth,” concluded Dave.
